Do you want to continue advancing in your career while working from home?

Do you mind learning about another job site today to add to your list?

Then keep reading, because this site named Virtual Vocations might be something to pursue.

What Exactly Is Virtual Vocations?

Virtual Vocations is a freelance/telecommuting site that helps professionals in many different professions find more flexible alternatives to working at a regular job site or office.  In other words, it introduces or reintroduces the most updated version of the virtual office or virtual worksite.

What clued me in on Virtual Vocations was several years ago, when I received an email with a list of freelance jobs from a friend of mine praising this new freelance job site that she had found.  She went on to boast about easy the site was to navigate as well as the professional jobs themselves that were listed there.  While she did land a telecommuting position, she did go on to mention that the site also had 100% remote jobs.

Always the curious one, I simply had to learn more about this site.  Since then, I have been recommending it and following it since that day many years ago.

How Did Virtual Vocations Get Started?

Virtual Vocations was founded by two siblings in February 2007.  These two siblings, Laura Spawn and Adam Stevenson, noticed the traditional workplace was changing and more people could work at home at least some of the time.  The Internet alone was opening up more doors to allow people to do just that.  However, as we all know, the Internet also opened up the way for more work-at-home and telecommuting scams.

Determined not to let this get in the way of allowing people to work from home and to allow companies the opportunity to cut down on utilities, office space, and other expenses—they set out to build Virtual Vocations.  In the beginning most of the jobs at Virtual Vocations were telecommuting jobs, they have since added more remote jobs with zero travel and zero commuting.  Even the once-a-month team meeting is now conducted virtually.

Virtual Vocations touts that it has over 677 new jobs being posted every day in 40 different industries.  Jobs are in industries such as accounting, administrative, bookkeeping, writing, and web design with the usual jobs you could expect to be found in an office environment. There are also medical jobs for triage/advice nurses answering calls at health insurance companies as well as online attorneys who offer advice online.

Jobs may be found at the entry level, mid-management, and all the way up to the executive level.   When they first opened in 2007, they only had the paid subscription.  Now Virtual Vocations offers a free subscription as well as the paid subscription.

Jobs are full-time, part-time, long-term, short-term, and can even result in a permanent position.  Telecommuting jobs need to have telecommuting only be a minimum 20% of the process to even be labeled “telecommuting”.

Virtual Vocations is also a member of the International Association of Employment Web Sites.

How Could an Individual Get Started With Virtual Vocations?

With Virtual Vocations, you visit https://www.VirtualVocations.com and click on the Register navigation button at the top of the website.  You fill out the very short form and create a user name and a password for your account.  You can also register with your Facebook account or Google account.

You then choose the subscription that you want. You can go with the free version or pay $15.99 monthly, $39.99 for 3 months or $59.99 for 6 months.  This is payable via credit card or PayPal. This subscription can also be canceled in advance.  Whether you chose the free subscription or one of the paid versions is up to you.

What Is the Difference Between the Paid Version of Virtual Vocations and the Free Version?

The only real difference between the two is that the paid version offers MORE jobs, additional online resources, and courses to enhance your professionalism that the free version does not offer.

While creating your online profile at Virtual Vocations, you may upload work samples, and connect a resume. Spend the time selecting the best samples of your work as well as uploading a professional resume.

One difference in Virtual Vocations and other work-at-home bidding sites is that each time you apply to a job, your resume is automatically attached to your application. Work samples may also be attached but are optional.

How Do Freelancers Bid For Jobs And How Is It Different From the Many Bidding Job Sites?

With Virtual Vocations, you are not bidding on but applying to jobs. This process is what you would do in a regular Brick and Mortar job. Again, roughly half of the jobs are telecommuting jobs that is why a resume is automatically attached when you apply to a job at Virtual Vocations.

All jobs are screened with the aid of Virtual Vocations and are either paid hourly, salary, or via the project.  These fees are set by the company with commission-only and fee-based jobs not accepted.  No doubt we’ve all seen the ones commission-based or fee-based on various bidding sites.

What Are Some of the Perks That Go With a Paid Subscription to Virtual Vocations?

Once you have put together your profile and selected your paid subscription (weekly, monthly or six-months), you will be able to search for jobs via date, job category, professional requirements, and/or employer.

You can also create a jobs feed as a way to send applicable jobs in your designated email account.

While bidding websites have job feeds, blogs, and forums—the most helpful perk is the free resume improving service. Virtual Vocations will rewrite your resume for you or make suggestions to you and allow you to do it.

How Is the Pay Treated at Virtual Vocations?

Payment is delivered via PayPal and could vary with every client as to the payment and pay schedule.  You just really have to read the description of the job and understand all of the additional mechanisms.

My Coaching Two Cents’ Worth

Try as much as you can to be your own job and opportunity advocate.  This is just one of the many opportunities which await you in the work-at-home job world.  The important thing here is to be armed with information and options and ready to make a decision.

While I rarely write company reviews on this blog, but tend to stick more to  ideas and opportunities accompanied by generalized lists, this is an opportunity I will elaborate on.  I have know many people who have landed good paying contracts here.  While I am not a fan of choosing sites that charge you a subscription for jobs, I think some times it is merited.

How much is your time worth is the question here.  While you can waste countless hours combing through sites such as Upwork, these jobs are vetted and ready to hire with much better pay.  Again, this is my two cents’ worth.

I will be adding it to the WAH and Freelance page here.  As always, it is good to arm yourself with multiple opportunities when you are freelancing.  Contracts do get delayed or canceled.

So, get our there and start hustling—side hustling, that is!
