This post is by a 50+ woman that came up with a great idea and passion project for helping everyone—even those over 50—enjoy Disney by creating a blog.  The blog helps those over 50 find less expensive entertainment and navigate the parks and activities.

Because we at Powerfully Purposed For Success, are not just all about work—even though we strive to really make it purposeful.  We also encourage good health and fun, because at 50+ it is just as much about life as it is about work.  Maybe this post will inspire you to find your next big idea, and you can also co-author another book or your first book like this talented freelancer did.

Here you go!  Here’s Paula Brown Kennedy and DisneyOver50.

So, Who is this Mastermind Behind Disney Over 50?

Let me start off by introducing myself. My name is Paula Brown Kennedy, and I am the owner of the website DisneyOver50.com. I’ve been asked to share a bit about my website and my background, which I am more than happy to do.

I’ve been a freelance writer for years now, too many to count. Walt Disney World was a subject that I would touch on from time to time, but it wasn’t my main concentration until a longtime friend approached me about writing for the website that he wanted to start. His site is DisneyDining.com, and I was the first writer that he hired.

How Did Writing For Disney Dining Inspire Me to Start Disney Over 50?

Disney Dining is still my main concentration, and it’s a pretty big site. Through Disney Dining I’ve been able to attend countless media events, including a Disney cruise and a trip to California. It’s been amazing, and I loved every moment of it. For Disney Dining I’ve also co-authored the book Dining at Walt Disney World: The Definitive Guide, which is available through Amazon with 152 customer reviews.

About a year and a half ago my sister and her husband started to plan a trip to Walt Disney World. They wanted it to be a true family vacation, with their kids and grandkids. My sister still lives in Massachusetts, not far from where we grew up. She knew very little about Disney, and since I live only a few miles from the parks and make my living writing about Walt Disney World, she asked for my help.

That’s how Disney Over 50 was born. I realized almost immediately that a lot of the info out there is geared towards parents who are around 30 and have 2.5 children. This includes a lot of what I’ve written elsewhere.

How Did Disney Over 50 Evolve Once the Idea Came?

For the first few months of Disney Over 50, my sister would send me a list of questions, then I’d answer them by writing a post. I figured if the information was helpful to her, it would be helpful to others in a similar situation. It must have worked, because they had a fantastic vacation.

Even though my sister’s vacation was over, I still pictured writing for her when I write for Disney Over 50. I also like to focus a bit on specific things that interest me. I’m a huge Star Wars fan, so I write a lot about the various Star Wars offerings in the parks. This is especially a focus right now, since the new land Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge will be opening at the end of August of this year.

Is Disney Over 50 Only For Those Over 50?

When I think about the name Disney Over 50, I am not specifically targeting people who are over a certain age. Instead, I like to think of it as writing from the viewpoint of someone who is over 50. I think that my age (I’m 29 and holding) gives me a perspective that you might not find on other sites.

Disney is not just for families with small children. I love to go to the parks and see retired couples there, enjoying their vacations and time with each other. That said, I like to think that most of the information on Disney Over 50 can be used by people of all ages.

Walt Disney World is an incredible place that has something for everyone. I try to hit on that when I write for Disney Over 50. You don’t have to have kids with you, in fact you don’t even have to visit the theme parks to have a good time.

What Are Some of My Favorite Disney Activities?

One of my favorite activities is to visit Disney’s BoardWalk in the evening and watch the street performers. These performances are free, and tipping is not allowed. My point is that not everything at Disney costs an arm and a leg, and there are lots of little extras outside of the parks. I love to share this type of information with my readers, especially those over 50 who may be on a limited income.

What Is the Future of Disney Over 50?

While Disney Over 50 is still small, I have a very loyal group of people who follow me. It’s exciting, because they seem to understand what I am aiming to do. With my site I’m not trying to say that once people get to a certain age that they should like some things at Walt Disney World and not others.

Instead, I want to give a well-rounded view of what this incredible place is all about. I’ve had a lot of people tell me that they find my tips and information helpful. Maybe you will as well. Stop by, and if you have any questions feel free to drop me a note. There’s a contact form on the site, and you can also search for Disney Over 50 on both Facebook and Instagram.
